Ulverston is a lovely South Lakeland market town, well-known for its cobbled streets, situated on the Lake District Peninsulas. With many tarns, lakes, villages and fantastic countryside within a short drive, it is also the start, or finish, of the famous Cumbrian Way.
Throughout the year Ulverston has a varied calandar of festivals and cultural events: the evening Lantern Festival in the autumn, a Dickens’ Christmas weekend where you can peruse the Christmas market stalls and sample the mulled wine, St George’s Day with a dragon chase through the historic streets, as well as local food markets featuring local food producers on Thursdays and Saturdays.
The coast is only minutes away with spectacular isolated beaches and magnificent sea views.
“…Ulverston is a lovely little town and the house is right in the centre, you can walk to all the shops and pubs. It is also easy to access everywhere else, Lake Coniston, Windermere, Ambleside to name a few. We didn’t want to leave!..”

The Lakes
The Lake District National Park is the largest national park in the UK, with the highest mountain Scafell Pike, and 12 lakes. The lake Windermere and Coniston water are the closest, where you can sail, hire motor-boats, take steamers or simply just walk on the lakes shores
There are plenty of attractions nearby: South Lakes Animal Zoo, the Lakeside Aquarium, Go-Ape adventure in Grizedale Forest and Haverthwaite steam railway, to name but a few. For art and culture, the Abbot Hall art gallery in Kendal, John Ruskin’s house at Brantwood, Coniston & the Beatrix Potter Galleries are all well worth a visit.
